Visit
Maskinrummet Skagen invites you inside Denmark's largest private engine collection. Daily guided tours and engine starts create a sensory experience for all ages.

The collection in the Engine Room

At Maskinrummet Skagen you can experience engine and maritime history up close. The collection includes stationary, ship, gas, petrol and diesel engines from, among others, BUKH, B&W and Frich as well as the world's first car by Carl Benz (1886) and Ford's Quadricycle (1896). The exhibition spreads over two halls with a total area of 2.000 m² and contains more than 1.000 maritime and agricultural-related items.

Experiences and tour

Book a guided tour where the Engine Room staff will start the engines and explain the technology, history and application. You will enter into the smell of petrol and diesel, while nameplates, tools, ship covers and enamel signs testify to the area's seafaring and fishing tradition.

Special exhibitions and events

During the summer months you can experience the Postbåden Tunø with daily departures at 11:30 and 14:00 (June 6–September 7). The Machine Room also hosts events such as Easter get-togethers, flea markets, American get-togethers and concerts – follow their Facebook page for regular updates.

Collaboration and future

Plesners Badehotel in Skagen offers versatile accommodation and a restaurant, where you can combine your visit with dinner or a longer stay. Maskinrummet Experience Center is expected to open in Easter 2026 and offers even more interactive experiences.

Donations and Collections

The Engine Room is a mixture of purchases of engines and effects, as well as donations in the form of material and things for the collection from visitors. This includes; Literature, drawings/paintings, lanterns, nameplates, bottle and model ships, tools and equipment/instruments. The Engine Room purchases engines and effects at home and abroad from private individuals, and from other collections.

Among other things, you will experience a huge collection of unique and well-maintained engines and vintage cars from the German collector Gunter Werner, as well as Hedebo Classic MC consisting of 118 motorcycles and 2 vintage cars from Hedebo Camping. Experience engines from the Jegindø power plant, Give and Randers brickworks, Flakfortet, printing houses, textile and cake factories. Experience bottle and model ships from Ærø and Marstal. - Take a break from the exhibition in the lovely Chesterfield sofas in Skipper Jensen's Memorial Room, which is a cozy chamber with relatively cool furnishings; radio, large paintings, model ships, furniture designed with rudders and pitch blades
