The route is part of the international North Sea Trail, which in Denmark is approximately 1.500 km long.
From Germany through South Jutland and West Jutland, the route follows the old drift roads.

From Ålbæk Klitplantage the route continues down through Jerup Hede and Ålbæk Mose to Kalmar Rimmer. The route then continues over Rendborg Hede to Strandby.
with a fishing port from 1896. On the way to Frederikshavn, you pass the famous Palmestrand. The route follows the coast further south through Frederikshavn to Sæby.

At Agger and on to Skagen, it runs along the West Coast, then along the "mild coast" of the Kattegat and out onto Djursland.
From here there is a ferry connection to Zealand, where the route continues through western and southern Zealand to Møn.
