Sad Church
Sørig Church is part of the Sørig-Bindslev pastorate, and is an incredibly beautiful church with a high spire of 22 meters.Sørig Church was built in 1901 as a branch church to Tversted Church and was designed by Vilhelm Ahlmann. In the mid-1800th century, the population began to settle at Sørig bog and Tversted Rimmer, which meant that they had a long way to Tversted Church. The roads were bad, and this helped start the idea of a church in Sørig. The state agreed to build a church in Sørig and gave 18.500 kr. for the construction of the church. The residents of Sørig only had to raise 2000 kr. for operation and maintenance.
The church is located approx. 10 km outside Tversted and approx. 24 km outside Hirtshals and is therefore part of Hjørring Nordre provsti. The church was consecrated on 1 October 1901, and since then the church has undergone two renovations. The first renovation was in 1956 when the stained glass mosaic, made by Palle Bruun, was installed. In 1981 the interior of the church was painted in bright colours.
The church is made of red brick, and on the west gable you will find the spire, in which the bell hangs. Inside the church, the choir and nave are one, and the ceiling is barrel vaulted. The baptismal font is cast in bronze and depicts a kneeling angel with a baptismal font, which is shaped like a clam.
The church has 26 pews with space for approximately 6 people each, giving the church a capacity of approximately 156 seats.
The nave, which hangs in the church, is a model of the training ship Georg Stage and was made by the former sailor Karl Henriksen from Nørresundby. The ship was hung in the church in 1982.
