VisitAt that time, the city was growing and the development was supported with the opening of the Skagensbanen in 1890.
The church project was budgeted to cost DKK 15.300, of which DKK 14.000 had been granted.
The rest was to be obtained by collection throughout the diocese.
However, it was not possible to raise all the money, which made it necessary to make certain savings.
However, this led to some conflict within the building committee and with the architect. Architect F. Uldall designed Jerup Church, which is built in red brick in an adapted Romanesque style.
The church was badly damaged by a lightning strike in 1897 and in that connection had to undergo extensive restoration.
Above the vestibule to the west there is a small octagonal bell tower and inside there are beamed ceilings.
The altarpiece is by H. Agersnap: "Easter morning". It is the church's original altarpiece from 1900.
During the restoration in 1982, it was moved to its current location on the west wall of the nave when a new picture of Svend Engelund was acquired. In connection with that restoration, the floor was covered with reddish-brown tiles.
The baptismal font is made of Faxe marble.
Until 1972, the bell hung in the roof rafter, but for fear that it might fall, a bell tower was built southwest of the church.
