Beautiful and diverse natural area, with the possibility of a nice bike ride. Hulsig Heath is protected and designated as an international nature conservation area.

The dune moor is one of the largest of its kind in Europe and contains great biological and landscape values. The area consists of dunes and heath with scattered wetlands under the strong influence of westerly winds. Here you will find white dunes, grey dunes, heath, swampy areas, bogs, scrub and forests. The waterholes that exist today have mostly arisen as a result of peat digging.

Extensive nature management beginning in the mid-1990s has stopped the threat posed by the migration of Scots pine from the nearby Skagen Plantation. The management has resulted in Hulsig Hede being recreated as an open dune and heath landscape with small stands of deciduous trees.

The natural dune and heath vegetation has re-established itself in the cleared areas. And the same has happened to the birds and other animals associated with the open heath and dune areas. This applies not least to the Red-backed Tornskade and the Beach Toad.

Across Hulsig Heath runs the Hulsig Path, which is a paved cycle path that runs between Skagen and Hulsig. If you don't have your own bike, you can rent one in Skagen (at the train station or at the harbor). The trip between Skagen and Hulsig is approx. 10 km.
