The mile at Spirbakke is a young mile. Here you can see how a windbreak is the start of a walking mile.

The sand mile on the Kattegat coast, on the other hand, has almost completed its journey across the spit.

The two miles provide a unique opportunity to follow the development of a walking mile cycle. When a dune moves, it can have the shape of a horseshoe, and the dune is then called a parabolic dune. Sand grains will be continuously deposited from the windward side to the leeward side of the dune.

If the mile's journey is not stopped by terrain or vegetation, it ends in the sea, as at Sandmilen, which blows across a kilometer-long stretch of land in the Kattegat.
